A WEYMOUTH pub landlord died after falling down the stairs, an inquest was told.

Dennis Sheppard, 60, was pronounced dead at Dorset County Hospital on October 15, just hours after the incident at Edinburgh House of Sounds pub in St Thomas Street after locking up for the night.

A post mortem found that Mr Sheppard suffered a brain haemorrhage as well as head and shoulder injuries after falling from three quarters of the way up the stairs.

The inquest was told that Mr Sheppard had been unwell for years, suffering with heart problems and blackouts.

Speaking after the inquest, his wife Sue Sheppard said her husband was 'a lovely man'.

“He got his way in the end.

“He died in the pub, which was a place he loved.”

She added that he would be missed by their two sons Paul and Steven and grandson Cole.

Mr Payne recorded a verdict of accidental death.
