Conservation work chance in Upton Wood
2:00pm Monday 11th March 2013 in News
CONSERVATION work days are taking place in Upton Wood on Saturday March 23 and Sunday March 24 from 10am to 5pm.
Organised by Purbeck District Council and Dorset Countryside Volunteers, the aim of the days is to make the wood a better place for people and wildlife. Councillor Gloria Marsh, natural environment spokesperson for Purbeck District Council, said: “The days will be spent cutting back holly to allow more space for other trees and plants to grow. “It’s that time of year when we all feel the need to have a clear-out, so this is a great opportunity to get stuck in and make a real difference.”
People don’t have to do the whole day. They can just go along and do as much as they can. Volunteers are advised to wear old clothes and sensible footwear and to bring their own lunch.
Hot and cold drinks, gloves, tools and safety training will be provided on the day.
All are welcome but children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Meet at the Pony Drive entrance, off Poole Road.
