Chris Huhne and Vicky Pryce sentencing - live updates Chris Huhne and Vicky Pryce sentencing - live updates

Disgraced former Eastleigh MP Chris Huhne and his ex-wife Vicky Pryce are today sentenced for perverting the course of justice.

Former Cabinet minister Huhne has been given an eight month sentence, of which he will serve half. He was given a 10 per cent reduction in his sentence because he pleaded guilty the day before his trial was due to start.

Economist Pryce was also given eight months by Mr Justice Sweeney at Southwark Crown Court.

Pryce, 60, was found guilty last week of perverting the course of justice by taking speeding points for Huhne, 58, in 2003.

Perverting the course of justice carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment, with an average sentence of around 10 months.

No need for prison sentences, just annul their divorce and compel them to live together again for five years - Justice at no further cost to the taxpayer!

If you can't set an example at the top, how do you expect people at the bottom to behave.

No justice there.Be out in four months.

What a vile vindictive woman she must be to completely destroy his career like that just because he no longer wanted to be with her.

That said, they shouldn't have been jailed, they should have been given community punishment orders sweeping streets. The pair of them have suffered enough with the disgrace they've brought upon themselves.

how much has this case cost the tax payer, now 16 months prison i can only imagine you will be happy to pick up the hotel bill because i am not.what a waste of time and money community service would have been much better.

What a ridiculous waste of time, and destruction of 2 people's lives. Everyone would pass over points to family members if it meant losing your licence, which everyone needs to get to work.

I'm not his fan by any means, but the poor blokes being stitched up.

Last year as reported in the echo and meridian news, 2 lads from Bournemouth who ripped off pensioners savings for doing work that wasn't needed got suspended sentences, yet these two get 8 months for 37 in a 30? Get real

Probably just two months, then out on licence with an electronic tag.

Why shouldn't they be jailed? If it had been ordinary civilians they would of been sentenced to prison its not one rule for them and another for Joe blogs I for one is happy they have been caught and sentencing them shows they are not above the law.

That's the problem here! Witch hunts. She took a few speeding tickets. Not like that fat labour bee-hatch pig Margaret Moran who robbed the taxpayer £53000.

I feel sorry for the both of them and
it seems a bit harsh to send them to
prison, but Huhne should not have
lied. Vicky Pryce was let down by him
and divorce is sad for all concerned.

Why send them to prison when it costs the tax payer a small fortune, they are not a danger to the public so just hit them with a massive fine.

Why does the BBC keep wheeling Jonathen Aitken out to comment .. his crime was far greater and serious and devious than the squabbling Huhne's nasty little spat.

On the otherhand , by hearing Jonathen Aitkin on the Media, we will be constantly reminded that the Conservative party are still the worst bunch of political scunners , and nothing changes!

I'm surprised they haven't wheeled out Lord Archer too.

Vicky Price was basically found guilty by the jury of grassing up her husband as much as the offence perverting gthe course of justice so no sympathy there.
As for Chris Huhne the moral of the story is don't get sometime to take your points unless you trust them 100% and then don't tell anyone else what you have done. This happens much more than you might believe - the crime is not doing it but getting caught doing it!

For all those who feel sorry for Mr Huhne think on, maybe it could have been your loved ones he killed whlist speeding with not a thought for the law of the land or other road users lives.. speed limits are there for a reason.
to protect us all and if you are stupid enough to egnore those limits you deserve all you get .
