Two motorists taken to hospital after a collision in Dorchester

TWO people were taken to hospital after a crash in Dorchester.

Emergency services were called out at around 12.30pm today after the two-vehicle collision at the junction on The Grove near Lidl.

The road was closed for around 40 minutes to allow crews to remove the casualties.

A spokesman for Dorset Fire and Rescue Service said: “At 12.40pm two crews from Dorchester, ten firefighters, attended a road traffic collision with persons trapped.

“On arrival police and ambulance were in attendance and the road was closed.

“Crews used cutting equipment to remove the roof and allow the casualty to be removed.”

A Dorset Police spokesman said there were two vehicles involved.

She said: “There was a two-vehicle road traffic collision on The Grove near Lidl.

“Fire crews attended to extract someone from one of the vehicles.

“A man and a woman were involved and were taken to hospital.

“The road was closed from the Top O' Town roundabout to the Weirs roundabout for around 40 minutes.

“A blue Hyundai and a red Iveco tipper were involved.”

Paramedics were on scene and both casualties were taken to Dorset County Hospital, one had sustained minor back injuries and the other went to be checked over.

A spokesman for South Western Ambulance said: “Two patients were taken to hospital, one with a minor back injury and the other was taken for a check.”

Didn't take long for those road 'improvements' to claim its first victim then.

Errr, well it did actually.


Lidl opened at the end of May, some 9 months ago and since then there has been 1 accident.


Therefore, the accident rate at that junction has reduced significantly.
