Relate Dorset needs cash to offer counselling
3:00pm Wednesday 13th March 2013 in News By Emma Walker
VITAL ROLE: Staff and trustees of Relate Dorset
A DORSET charity is seeking funds to help promote healthy relationships.
Relate Dorset provides counselling for couples, families, children and young people.
Sheila Maycock, of the charity, said: “Our mission is to support anyone dealing with break-ups, arguments, affairs, problems with sex, step-families, retirement, a new baby or anything else that can affect a relationship.”
It provides support from outposts across Dorset including its Dorchester-based main office.
More donations are needed for the county town bursary as there is only enough left to support individuals and couples already attending counselling.
The Do It for Dorset campaign is a joint initiative between the Dorset Echo and the Dorset Community Foundation – a registered charity dedicated to promoting charitable giving and grant making for charities and community groups across the county.
The foundation works with secret millionaires, family businesses and companies who want to give back to their community.
Do It for Dorset aims to raise awareness and funds for charities signed up to localgiving.com Ms Maycock added: “Funds will go towards giving support to disadvantaged members of the community when they need it most.
“The charity’s vision is a future in which healthy relationships are actively promoted as the basis of a thriving society.
“The support offered by our counsellors improves relationships leading to increased well-being and happiness.”
Specially trained counsellors help people across Dorset identify issues causing anxiety and take steps to ensure positive change.
People who are having difficulties in their relationships can access the support offered by Relate even if they are also struggling financially.
Relate is the largest provider of relationship counselling in the United Kingdom for families, couples, individuals and young people.
