A Ford Fiesta car stolen from Poundbury was set alight at Grimstone in the early hours, police said.
The vehicle was found at the junction of the A37 and the A356 Maiden Newton Road.
A man has been arrested and is on bail.
Witnesses and anyone with information can call the police on 101.
