MY HEROES: Scarlett Russ, who is in need of a special vest, with mum and dad Lisa and Colin, centre, with staff from Dorset Autospares
A GROUP of Weymouth workers will be walking 12 miles to raise money for little Scarlett Russ.
The group from Dorset Autospares were inspired after hearing brave Weymouth toddler Scarlett’s story.
Three months ago her parents Lisa and Colin Russ found out the nine-month-old tot had cystic fibrosis.
The condition especially affects the lungs and digestive system, clogging them with sticky mucus, which makes it hard for her to breathe and digest food.
The family are now on a mission to raise £10,000 to buy a special vest which helps to move the mucus off her lungs and will help her breathe.
The team at Dorset Autospares, on Cambridge Road, know her father Colin and wanted to help out. So on April 13 they will be donning purple outfits with pictures of Scarlett on and walking 12 miles from Portland to Dorchester.
They will be starting at 2pm at Victoria Square on the Isle and hopefully finishing at about 6-7pm at the Junction Hotel in the county town.
Hellan Boylan, from the team, said following a chat to Scarlett’s dad team member Roxie Perez suggested they do something to help.
Hellan said: “We want to raise as much money as we can. We want to raise more than £1,000.”
She said that the vest would be ‘amazing’.
People can sponsor the group in a number of ways: there will be sponsorship forms at various garages around Weymouth and also at the reception of the Dorset Echo on the Granby Industrial Estate.
The group are inviting people to come to the pub to help them celebrate.
They will be walking up the Weymouth Relief Road wearing purple so make sure to give them a honk of the car horn for support.
People can also use the PayPal account hellan.x @hotmail.com.
