West Dorset student to tackle demonstration in London

BUDGET PROTEST: Kristie Thacker BUDGET PROTEST: Kristie Thacker

A STUDENT from west Dorset was due to take part in a demonstration in London today ahead of the budget.

Former Colfox School Kristie Thacker, 19, from Abbotsbury, will dress as Chancellor George Osborne to support a campaign by Oxfam to tackle hunger around the world.

The charity’s IF campaign aims to persuade world leaders to tackle the root causes of hunger, including international aid and tax. Kristie, who is studying at Nottingham University, will join other protestors near Parliament brandishing budget boxes and wearing suits and George Osborne masks.

Mr Osborne will deliver his budget speech to MPs tomorrow.

Kristie said: “It is a scandal that 50 per cent of the global population go hungry every day.

“We cannot take aid away from them and I don’t know how we can sleep at night if we don’t meet that commitment.

She added: “I would like to see MPs keep their promises in the year of the G8 and also on the eve of an important budget.

“I am looking forward to the event.”

Overseas aid budget has not been cut !
How lovely to hear that these students who are always pleading poverty can afford to go on such jolly days out.
Apparently it is going to bucket down with rain, and wind and hail too, what a shame.

While we can blame Cameron and Osborne for a lot of the problems in this country we can't blame them for the fact that 50% of the world's population go hungry! Why isn't this girl studying instead of having a jolly in London? I'm more concerned about feeding my own family before I worry about others I'm afraid!
