A PAIR of siblings have taken the chop to raise hundreds of pounds for Cancer Research UK.

Jodie Edwards, 22, and Craig Spann, 19, said goodbye to their long locks as part of a sponsored head shave to raise cash for the charity.

The Weymouth siblings have raised more than £300 so far for the cause, with donations still rolling in.

Jodie said when she told her brother what she was planning he was eager to get involved.

She said: “Originally it started as a joke at work and then I thought why not shave my head for charity.

“I went home and mentioned it to Craig and he wanted to do it as well.

“We picked Cancer Research because we’ve lost a family member to the disease, our grandmother Ann-Marie Spann died from cancer in January.”

Youngsters from the 4th St Mary’s Weymouth Brownie group, where Jodie is an assistant leader, helped Shaun Hennessey, owner of Blondz salon, with the cut.

Each Brownie chopped a strand of Jodie’s hair off before Mr Hennessey finished off the shave.

Jodie said: “I was really excited but I did get a bit scared on the day.

“My hair is going to another charity which makes wigs for children affected by cancer.

“It was an emotional thing to do but I’m really glad we’ve done it.”

Jodie’s tresses were donated to the Little Princess Trust, which gives wigs to children who lose their hair through cancer treatment.

So far, sponsorship money is pouring in but the fundraisers are urging people to donate.

Miss Edwards added: “We would like to raise £2,500, so we would love it if people could donate anything they can to support our challenge.”
