A CAFE used to film the hit crime drama Broadchurch is running a charity draw to guess the killer.

The Ellipse Caffe (CORRECT) at West Bay was used for scenes in the prime time thriller starring David Tennant and Olivia Colman.

Now – as the fourth episode of the series was aired last night – staff are holding a cash-prize draw and a special supper for Julia’s House children’s hospice.

The show, written by Bridport-based Chris Chibnall, follows the investigation into the death of young Danny Latimer on Broadchurch Beach.

Steve Tucker, co-owner of Ellipse Caffé at West Bay, said: “Right now no-one, glued to Monday television at 9pm, seems to have the faintest idea who killed Danny.

“So, to harness the power of community thinking we’re launching a cash- prize draw and supper for charity.  What we want to know is: who, where and why.”

The fourth episode of the eight part drama tonight notches up the tension with more twists and turns.

Young reporter Olly digs up a previous conviction in the shopkeeper Jack’s past which shifts some of the suspicion his way.

Meanwhile, Mark and Beth try to stir up more national coverage to get more attention on the hunt to find their son's killer.

Steve is asking people to either download a crime sheet from ellipse’s Facebook or web page, or pop in and complete one over a coffee with fellow sleuths.

Actress Tracey Childs also appears in the drama as Superintendant Elaine Jenkinson.

There is a fee for every entry placed in the caffé’s Broadchurch Mystery Box which has an increasing scale of charges as more clues are revealed in each episode.

Week four costs £1 and week seven rises to £2.50 per entry.

The winner, drawn from all the correct entries, will be announced at the Ellipse at a special meal – Last Supper for Someone in Broadchurch – on Monday April April 22 when the final episode is screened.

Steve said: “Advance booking is absolutely essential for this unique, ticket only event.

“We expect the atmosphere to be electric with infectious anticipation and emotion.”

He added: “We’ll be serving a choice of pizzas and a drink before the final programme is screened in the caffé and in addition to half the prize draw takings, a further donation from each meal, (cost £15 per head) will be made to the Dorset based hospice charity, Julia’s House.

“The aim of Julia's House is to maximise and enrich the quality of life for Dorset children and young people with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions providing  support from diagnosis to death and beyond for the whole family.”

Scriptwriter Chris is not able to attend the supper but has given Steve his support.

Chris remains silent on the outcome but does warn that it is a very emotional episode and may require tissues to be available with the condiments.

Steve was present during much of the filming and took dozens of photographs.

Scenes were shot in Ellipse and Broadchurch’s Police Station is next door.

He said that the first coach has already been spotted, laden with tourists seeking fictional Broadchurch and key locations.

The prime time drama - tonight on ITV at 9pm - was shot in West Bay as well as in Portishead and the Bristol area.
