A COLLECTION of fossils from Dorset’s Jurassic Coast is going under the hammer at auction in Dorchester.
The fossils from a local collector include fine ammonites and belemnites that are believed to have come from Burton Bradstock.
They will be up for sale at Duke’s auction house in the county town on Thursday, April 11.
The sale also includes a pair of dinosaur eggs believed to have come from Madagascar and a piece of Stromatolite fossil that is thought to be as much as two-and-a-half billion years old.
Estimates for the fossils start at £50 to £100 but the more rare examples are expected to fetch several hundred pounds.
Auctioneer Matthew Denney said: “Dorset is rightly famous around the world for the Jurassic Coast and the fossils that have been found there.
“The local collection that we have been asked to sell contains some great local fossils, as well as some impressive specimens from further afield.
“We always get many buyers for fossils here at Duke’s and we look forward to seeing many enthusiasts and collectors who are looking to add to their collections.”
Viewing for the sale starts on Saturday, April 6.
