AN INMATE at a Portland jail has admitted possessing drugs in his cell.

Michael Lindo, aged 32, admitted three offences relating to the possession of heroin, cannabis and cannabis resin.

Prosecutor Carolyn Branford-Wood told Dorchester Crown Court that a search of Lindo’s cell at HMP and YOI Portland was carried out on June 15 last year. She said prison officers found two socks inside the lid of a stereo player. One contained 4.84grams of heroin and 6.33g of cannabis resin while the other contained 22.92g of herbal cannabis.

The court was told Lindo, of The Esplanade, Weymouth, was serving a nine year term imposed at Kingston-upon-Thames Crown Court in February 2011 for two offences of robbery, possessing a firearm with intent and possessing an imitation firearm with intent.

Lindo was sentenced to 20 weeks in prison, which will be served consecutively to the term he is serving.
