STAFF at a Weymouth store are gearing up for a fundraising walk to help others.

A group of 24 women from Morrisons will come together to take part in this year’s Midnight Walk.

The team will join hundreds of women as they take to Weymouth’s seafront for the 6.5-mile moonlit stroll on Saturday, July 20. The money raised will go towards the Weldmar Hospicecare Trust. The ladies have already started fundraising in store and at home. Team leader Jane Andrews said: “We haven’t started talking figures yet but we hope to raise as much money as we can.

“We’ve started fundraising activities such as cake baking, back-packing and guessing the number of jelly beans.”

Some of the women have taken part in the walk before but this is the first time they have joined together as a team.

Ms Andrews added: “We’re all really excited to be involved. “It’s a great event and a bonus that we don’t have to run.”

The annual fundraising event will provide a full line-up of entertainment to help make it a real ladies’ night out.

Matt Smith, event organiser and manager, said: “We are incredibly pleased with the response to this year’s walk and we are seeing more and more teams as well as individuals registering each day.”

This year is shaping up to be the most successful yet with 600 ladies already signed up the event.

There will be three routes to choose from this year including five, six-and-a-half miles or 10 miles, all starting at midnight.

Mr Smith added: ‘We would like to thank everyone who has signed up and would encourage even more ladies to register and be part of this fantastic event.

“Our fundraising target this year is £80,000 and the more money we can raise the more services we can provide for people in Dorset.”

Last year’s total reached around £66,000, a sum which would care for 14 patients for a fortnight at the Joseph Weld Hospice in Dorchester.
