BEAMINSTER 190 (20pts) beat BOURNEMOUTH THIRDS 118 (7pts) by 72 runs

SIMON Jones produced another great innings as Beaminster recorded a 72-run victory over Bournemouth Thirds in Dorset League Division Two.

The in-form batsman scored 72 as the hosts racked up a total of 190 before skittling their opponents for just 118.

Commenting on the victory, Beaminster skipper Will Everitt said: “It was a really good performance and to be honest we should have won by a greater margin.

“We had them on 86-9 at one stage but allowed them to put on a 10th-wicket partnership of 32, which was a little disheartening.

“It was still a positive result though and everyone was chuffed afterwards.

“Everyone batted well and chipped in with some runs in the top-order apart from myself, and it was great to see Simon Jones bat so well and for the second week in a row score in the 70s.

“Ross Baker (3-32) and Julian Davies (4-33) then both bowled superbly so all in all it was a pretty good day out.”

Jones and Davies (24) put on 50 for the opening wicket before Will Denham (5-24) broke the partnership and then went on to trap Everitt leg before for a duck.

Suddenly the hosts were under a bit of pressure but Baker (20), Dan Hillier (18) and Dean Hyett (22) all scored runs in the middle-order to help Jones set a competitive target.

In reply, Davies and Baker hit Bournemouth’s top-order hard before Neil Pack (47) then dug in to finish just shy of a half-century.

Apart from a brave rally from last-man Ashley Humber (12 not out), Pack received little support as Everitt’s men eventually went on to claim the spoils with relative ease.

Next up for Beaminster is a trip to Cranborne, who currently lie second in the table with three wins from four.
