More than 100 residents gathered in Colliers Wood this weekend for a picnic celebration as part of a nationwide project to bring communities together.

Organised by the Colliers Wood Residents Association and supported by Everyday Church Wimbledon, the ‘Big Lunch’ in Wandle Park on Sunday saw children treated to a mini beast adventure and adults were able to take part in a Tai Chi class.

Sean Hammond, pastorate leader at Everyday Church in Wimbledon, said: "It was beautiful weather for a picnic and the day was a resounding success.

“We knew we wanted to do something to join with The Big Lunches happening all over the country, and when Keith Spears and the Residents Association organised a picnic on the same day we thought it would be great to join in."

"I was really pleased to see everyone chatting and mixing with each other.

“We're grateful to Keith for organising the event and we're looking forward to another one soon, to help solidify some of the links made today."
