THE Dorchester-based Footprints Project hosted a fundraising event at Portland Young Offender Institution.
Guests were welcomed by governor Russell Trent, had a guided tour of the prison and heard individual stories from some of the young offenders. Afterwards, they enjoyed drinks in a marquee erected in the governor’s garden by other young prisoners.
Footprints mentors ex-offenders when they leave custody and return to Dorset and south Somerset.
The event was attended by patron of Footprints the Arch Deacon of Sherborne, chairman Paul Taylor, writer and supporter Minette Walters and the High Sheriff of Dorset Catriona Payne.
Footprints is actively involved in educating the public as to the difficulties that ex- offenders face when re-integrating following their release from prison. To this end, members of staff are available to give talks to community groups and are actively engaged in interacting with other agencies within the Criminal Justice system.
Footprints was established in 2005.
