Two more of Littlemoor’s new series of walks leaflets have just been published.
Commissioned by the Littlemoor Community Action Group and sponsored by Dorset County Council’s Sustainable Transport Fund, local man Malcolm Beeson plans a complete series of seven leaflets.
The first covers walks north of Littlemoor including Bincombe, Came Wood  and was printed in April.
The second continues from Bincombe Bumps, Chalbury Hill and Preston with diversions to the mill pond at Sutton Poyntz.
The third covers Bowleaze and Overcombe and back via Lodmoor. This is one of the longer walks at about 5 miles and includes suggested stop off points for refreshments and toilets.
As well as maps Malcolm has included brief accounts of local history including the World famous Rimbury Urnfield and the prehistoric elephant remains found at Bowleaze.
Beautifully illustrated by Yvonne Lee, the remaining leaflets in the series won’t be available until later this year. These will cover walks to the south as far as Weymouth itself and to the west and The Wishing Well café.
All leaflets are free and available at Littlemoor’s Co-op Supermarket, pharmacy, doctors’ surgeries and library. Further afield, stocks are held at Weymouth & Portland Borough Council’s office on North Quay and at the tourist information centre in the shop by the bus stops near the King’s Statue.
If you would like to join Malcolm on a weekly walk around our fascinating and beautiful area you can meet up with him on Friday morning’s at 10.30am outside the charity shop.

This year’s summer holiday reading challenge is the Creepy House. Young readers are challenged to read 6 books through the holiday and make their way through the Creepy House from the awful attic to the spine tingling cellar.
Collect trader cards and play games against your friends or go online and share your favourite books, meet famous authors and keep track of your reading and find more books to read.
The reading challenge booklets are available at the library.
During August the library will be holding exciting activities for the kids. Keep a lookout on the noticeboard or see the librarian for further details.
