CHOIR concerts in Weymouth and Dorchester have been raising money for a good cause.

The One Voice choir performed two programmes called ‘Let The River Run’ in aid of work done by the Fortuneswell Cancer Trust.

The charity works with Dorset County Hospital to provide facilities and improvements for cancer treatment in Dorset.

The choir raised £330.

Mayor of Weymouth and Portland Councillor Ray Banham said: “I’ve witnessed their performances and they’re a fantastic choir.

“Raising money for Fortuneswell is a great cause and I wish them every success in fundraising and hope people support them.”

To date, the trust has raised money to help relocate and refurbish the Fortuneswell out-patient unit and has been instrumental in the creation of the inpatient ward.

The ward also houses the multidisciplinary team, which meet to discuss the diagnosis and management of cancer patients.

Chairman of the choir John Ellis added: “These perform-ances were some of the best we’ve done in the five years since we started. I had full support of the choir to choose this particular charity and it was our first opportunity to sing in Dorchester and we really enjoyed it.”

The Fortuneswell Cancer Trust now aims to fundraise towards the development of two en suite side rooms, which will enable staff to care for the more acute cancer patients.

The cost of each is £50,000.

John added: “We’ve got an exciting programme coming up for Christmas where we aim to get 150 schoolchildren singing, so watch this space.”
