UPDATED WITH PICTURES: Fun Day cancelled as travellers move onto school playing fields
Enforcement officers arrived on site after being called in by the Duchy of Cornwall as the travellers had not left the site near Holmead Walk by 1pm yesterday as they had been advised to do.
However, following discussions with the officers with local Dorchester police officers present, they left the site around 5.30pm.
One of the travellers told the Dorset Echo that they had always said they would leave yesterday and that was exactly what they intended to do.
But after moving off the land they set up camp at the field at the nearby school.
They have strung up washing between goalposts on the lower playing field.
Meanwhile, they left behind empty gas bottles and assorted rubbish at the previous site at Poundbury.
Care South's Maiden Castle House was due to hold a Community Fun Day at the Thomas Hardye School on Saturday.
The event has now been cancelled because of the travellers' camp.
