Dorchester baby play cafe celebrates its first birthday
TWO mums who followed their dream of a baby play café in Dorchester have celebrated their first birthday.
Michelle Cheeseman and Mel Ford have had thousands of parents, babies and toddlers visit their Munchkins Play Café since they opened their doors last August.
Their customers have enjoyed baby friendly facilities, A changing room, baby friendly menu and activity groups.
Joint owner Michelle, a former teacher, said: “I am just amazed we have been open a year now and so proud of everything we’ve achieved.
“It has been a lot of hard work but we’re so overwhelmed by the loyalty of our customers and all the mums who have supported us.”
On Saturday the café hosted a big birthday party for its customers with free music, cup cake decorating, face painting and musical groups.
A special birthday cake was hand crafted by Abby at Truly Scrumptious Cakes.
They also collected money for the Special Care Baby Unit at Dorchester County Hospital.
Former childcare worker Mel and Michelle met at a Dorchester school where both their children attended and felt their was no-where for Dorchester mums to go in the town centre.
They soon gathered support and decided to take the plunge and open their own café.
She said their backgrounds in childcare helped them to prioritise what mums really need.
She said: “We both love coming to work now and feel we have met some great friends and established our own community.
“We want to say thanks to everyone who has come to our party and supported us through our first year.”
The café has just been nominated for a prestigious Net Mums award for the country’s Favourite Children’s Party Venues alongside Farmer Palmers.
Michelle added: “This is very exciting for us and we are thrilled to have been recognised in the South West for our parties.”
If you want to vote for either venue you have until August 23.
