You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet - AIR FM to broadcoast from Weymouth beach
4:26pm Friday 16th August 2013 in News
WEYMOUTH Carnival is set to get some serious AIR time.
AIR 107.2, Weymouth’s Community Radio station, will be running a two-day road show on the beach as part of the carnival celebrations.
On Tuesday and Wednesday from 12noon-10pm there will be a beach road show by the Pavilion to tie in with this year’s carnival.
AIR 107.2 will be hosting a music festival and will be comparing and introducing bands.
On Tuesday there will be a five-hour radio road show with bands, games and prize giveaways.
Then on Wednesday the radio station is entering a float into the carnival.
Station Manager Carl Greenham said he wouldn’t spoil the surprise for carnival fans but said: “Watch out for AIR 107.2’s ‘fly-by’ during the carnival procession.”
The station went onto FM radio just three months ago but organisers say they have been blown away by the support of people in Weymouth and they have received a wonderful response from the community.
Mr Greenham said: “The first three months has superceded expectations. It’s been brilliant.
He said he still got a buzz from seeing the car stickers in people’s windows or hearing people talking about how much they liked the station.
He said: “It’s very easy to forget when you are presenting that so many people are listening. You think it’s just your friends or family. You forget the power and reach of radio.”
Mr Greenham said they had lots of volunteers involved from the age of 11-60. He said it really gave people the chance to get involved.
He said: “We are growing all the time. What you hear today might not be what you hear next week. We are getting bigger and better.”
The team would like to thank everyone who has volunteered to be part of the AIR 107.2 experience, the Air Crew, Print Shop Express for donating a free logo for their car and outside broadcasting trailer, all the local businesses for supporting them and the listeners.
