Thousands have lined the streets. Wessex majorettes have added a touch of music to the event with a lively performance.

Carnival Queen Gina Hartley said today has been 'absolutely brilliant'.
She said: "I have loved every minute. The Red Arrows coming back was amazing and I've been up the Sea Life Tower and just enjoying the atmosphere.
"The look on kids' faces has been fantastic, they are just so happy and smiley and so many have been coming up and asking questions.
"I can't wait to meet more people throughout the year."

Sergeant Brian Nash is one of the RAF staff at their recruitment tent near the Pavilion and said this afternoon's red arrows display has sparked a lot of interest in the service.

He said: "For each display there's nine pilots, plus one to do the commentary but up to 90 engineers on the ground.
"It really draws people in and a lot of time and dedication goes into these displays."

Crowds looked on in awe as the Red Arrows made a welcome return to Weymouth.
Visitors and residents clapped and cheered as the pilots performed death-defying stunts over the bay.
Shirley Cheal, aged 70, of Worthing, said: "I thought they flew very well and watching them was very nerve wracking.
"We're on a day trip here in Weymouth and didn't know the carnival was on which was a nice surprise.
"It's a really good atmosphere."
Annette Allom, aged 55, from Queensland, Australia, said: "The red arrows were just amazing.
"We have our own version of them in Australia but they don't do big shows or fly with all the colours.
"We're visiting our son in Shepton Mallet and someone recommended we come to Weymouth for the day.
"I think it's really lovely and a very pretty place."
Kevin Biggs, visiting with his family from Bristol, said: "They were brilliant we saw them in Weymouth a couple of years ago but the weather wasn't this good.
"I was in the forces myself and you just can't imagine what it's like meeting someone with that skill in conflict.
"There's a lot of trust involved and they all must have nerves of steel."

Carl Greenham, founder and station manager of AIR 107.2, Weymouth's community radio station, has been setting up the beach music festival AIR FM stage as part of the carnival activities.

He said: "Myself and the AIR team have come straight from the breakfast show and we are so excited to be here on the day of the Weymouth Carnival.
"The breakfast show this morning was the show we have received the most audience response from, everyone in Weymouth is really looking forward to the carnival today.
"On Weymouth beach today we have the AIR music festival with games and entertainment as well as music. We also have the band 'Danny and The Goose Man' performing live on our carnival procession float later today.
"This is the first time we've been invited by the carnival team to be part of today and it's a great opportunity for us to get noticed by the believed crowds of over 100,000 people."

SCORES of people flocked to see this year's Weymouth Carnival queen Gina Hartley crowned on the seafront.
Weymouth and Portland Mayor Ray Banham officially opened the town's most celebrated annual event.
He said: "This year we have been given typical carnival weather.
"Welcome to everyone here.  I now declare Weymouth Carnival open."
Carnival queen Gina Hartley urged everyone to make the most of the day.
She said: "There are so many things going on, it is going to be a great day."
Deputy president Lucy Compton, who was previously crowned as carnival queen, said: "After months and months of planning I'm so happy to say that Weymouth Carnival is open for business.
"I hope everyone has a wonderful time and makes the most of the procession and fireworks later today.

"We have had our morning briefing and shook each others hands and we are all so excited.

Ray Banham said: "We have got the weather on our side today, we are all excited to get going and it is going to be a fantastic carnival day.

"It will be fantastic to meet people and see people enjoying theirselves.

"You can't miss the Weymouth carnival, it's the town's biggest event of the year and anyone thinking about coming today should come, you will have a fantastic time.

"The carnival team have worked exceptionally hard they struggled at first but it has all come together and we're looking forward to a brilliant carnival day."

Isn't she lovely...Weymouth Carnival Queen 2013 Gina Hartley was declared the winner at the carnival ball last weekend. She will be crowned again in front of crowds on the balcony of the New Vic at 10am. Don't miss it. The carnival committee will also be organising games outside the venue, with bottles of champagne to be won (teddy bear prizes for children).
