FORMER Weymouth schoolgirl Perrie Edwards IS set to wed pop star boyfriend Zayn Malik of One Direction.

The Little Mix star wore the three-stone diamond engagement ring for the first time at the premier of the One Direction film This Is Us at Leicester Square in London last night.

Perrie’s mum Debbie Dufty confirmed to the Dorset Echo today that the pair were engaged.

She said: It's official. I'm over the moon. They are really in love.”

She said Perrie was absolutely thrilled but hadn't wanted to make the engagement official just yet as last night's premier was all about Zayn and the boys.

No date has yet been set for the big day.

Debbie confirms the rumours- hear the audio here

Perrie had been hoping to make it down for Weymouth Carnival but wasn't able to due to the band's busy schedule.

Perrie shot to fame after appearing on the X Factor with Little Mix. She attended Radipole Primary School when she lived in Weymouth as a girl.

Some of her family still live in the town.

Perrie and Zayn are regular visitors to Weymouth and Zayn recently had a tattoo at Tattoo Magic in the town.

Tattooist Paul O’Connor drew a wolf and feathers design on the leg of the heartthrob Perrie by his side.

The ink design, stretching the length of Zayn’s lower left leg, took around two hours to complete.

Weymouth’s Ian Gill was also asked to make Perrie a birthday cake.

Ian, of Arty Party Cakes in Dorchester Road, created the colourful cake for the Little Mix band member on her 20th birthday last month.

The psychedelic confection became an internet sensation after Perrie Tweeted a picture of herself with it to her three-and-a-half million followers thanking her mum Debbie, who ordered the cake for her, and Arty Party Cakes.

What a sad indictment this story is in that it shows just how low the Dorset Echo's standards have slumped to in reporting so called Dorset news.

It begs the question, would this girl have given this boy a second glance if he had been Mr No-body, or was it the strange fascination that the likelihood of him being part of a more financial success than the group she is part of, was something of a temptation not to pass. We will never know, and of course I could be totally wrong and that they actually do love one-another. Let's hope so.

Because the Editor of the Bournemouth Echo is also the Editor of the Dorset Echo based in Weymouth - we no longer have our own Editor in Bournemouth who cares about local news and issues. Ye gods - standards have really dropped since I used to work there!

Congratulations to both of them.
I've no idea why this is 'news', given that nobody outside their own families really cares, but there's no harm in wishing them the best anyway, as you would anyone.
Not heard of 'Little Mix' but I see 'One Direction' crap everywhere so at least they wont have to argue about bills like me and the misses do!!

My step daughter will be devastated. She has no taste in music, seems to like boys who dress like girls, and has a One Direction mug, which is thankfully fading after plenty of exposure to the dishwasher. She saw their overpriced concert where she seems to have just screamed all night, and will probably continue to scream at me if this makes into the Comments section of the paper edition!
