Echo breaks news of Perrie's pop proposal
POP star Perrie Edwards’s mum revealed exclusively to the Dorset Echo that she is set to wed heartthrob boyfriend Zayn Malik of One Direction.
The Little Mix star wore a three-stone diamond ring at the premiere of the One Direction film This Is Us at Leicester Square in London on Tuesday night-sparking fevered speculation that the pair were engaged.
And while the internet went into overdrive with rumour and counter-rumour Perrie’s mum Debbie Dufty confirmed to the Echo that the pair were indeed engaged.
She said: “It’s official. I'm over the moon. They are really in love.”
She said Perrie was absolutely thrilled but hadn’t wanted to make the engagement official just yet as Tuesday’s premier was all about Zayn and the boys.
The story was immediately picked by media across the world. It was the lead story on Sky Entertainment News and Hello Magazine, and a host of national and international newspapers and websites including the New York Post all of whom cited the Dorset Echo as the source of the story.
Debbie said no date has yet been set for the big day. She added that Perrie had been hoping to make it down for Weymouth Carnival but wasn't able to due to the girl band’s busy schedule.
Perrie shot to fame after appearing on the X Factor where Little Mix was formed. She attended Radipole Primary School when she lived in Weymouth as a girl. Many members of her family still live in the town.
Perrie and Zayn are regular visitors to Weymouth and Zayn recently had a tattoo at Tattoo Magic in the town.
Weymouth’s Ian Gill has also volunteered to make the wedding cake after he was asked to make Perrie a birthday cake. He said: “I’d be delighted if they wanted Arty Party Cakes to make their wedding cake for them.”
