FROME Valley History Society will be visiting Newton House in Newton Surmaville (beside Stoford Road into Yeovil) on Monday, September 2.

The manor house, built in 1612, remained in the Harbin family until 2007. Fully restored, this is a Grade I listed building with Grade II gardens.

There will be a conducted tour of the house by the present owners and a map provided for the gardens and a half-mile river walk.

Cream teas in the courtyard or tearooms will be included in the tour.

THERE will be a special coffee morning in Rampisham to celebrate the hall improvements from 10.30am on Thursday September 5 in the village hall. The local history room has been reorganised, the bar area renovated, a bookcase installed with books to borrow or exchange and the car park resurfaced.

Do come along to see the improvements and join in the celebrations. There will be a raffle with proceeds shared between the hall and the church.

MEMBERS of the Ivy Club in Maiden Newton are reminded of the outing to Lynton and Lynmouth on Tuesday, September 3.

THE RIVERSIDE Blues Band will be performing in the Savill Hall, Cattistock, on Saturday September 14. The event begins at 7.30pm and tickets cost £10, including a light meal.

The band’s repertoire includes a mix of Old School R ‘n B with a generous sprinkling of Classic Blues ... and just a hint of ACDC. Come along and listen or even dance to the music.

STRATTON and Bradford Peverell WI is holding its next meeting on Thursday, September 19, when there will be a talk on the subject of The National Gamekeepers’ Organisation.

MELBURY MEN’s Breakfast will hold their next meeting on Saturday, September 21, when the speaker will be Richard Heenan.

Meetings are held at the Southern Counties Shooting Club Cafe on Wardon Hill (A37), starting at 8.30am and finishing at around 9.45am. The cost of the breakfast is £7.
