Organisers delighted with Carnival Day achievement

WEYMOUTH Carnival organisers have defended this year’s event and say they are determined to learn from the experience.
Carnival spokesman Diane Moore said: “From our point of view it was a brilliant day.
“There were a few mishaps, just small things, which we can work on.”
She is disappointed at general comments made about a lack of floats in the procession and the fact there was only one air display. Diane said: “That is down to the local community. Do people think money grows on trees?
“We’re a new group and we started off with nothing.
“I think people should appreciate it was a good carnival and it was well handled. The more people want from the carnival, the more they have to give.”
Tens of thousands of people flocked to the resort for the charity carnival.
Organising duties were for the first time in the hands of a new group, the volunteer Weymouth Carnival and Events Club.
Members said they had learnt a lot and gained experience for organising future events.
They will meet soon to discuss the way forward while also calculating how much money is left over which can be handed out to good causes.
The task of counting the money has begun but with bills to pay, it will be a while before a total is known.
