Record number of riders for Weymouth's Beach Motocross weekend
WEYMOUTH’S Beach Motocross Weekend is set to return this year with a record number of riders.
Running on October 19 and 20, organisers say this year’s event is set to be ‘bigger and better than ever’.
The popular event will see a record entry of motocross riders as over 250 bikes are expected.
The annual event, organised by the Weymouth and Portland Lions and Purbeck Motocross Club, also aims to provide a cash boost for local charities every year.
Weymouth and Portland Lions president Russ Woolley, said: “We keep trying to make our Beach Motocross event bigger, better and more fun.
“As well as the new attractions and entertainment features, we expect a fantastic range of stalls to line the esplanade, including charity stalls drawing attention to local and national good causes, Trimar, The Air Ambulance, Osprey Leisure Centre and Melcombe Regis Rotary Club, who are promoting the Shelterbox relief charity.
“We also have some fantastic food on offer, so be sure to reserve the dates in your diary for some great family entertainment and excitement.”
More than 200 bikers took part in last year’s Motocross Weekend and sunny weather ensured thousands of people flocked to enjoy the feast of petrol-fuelled entertainment.
This year there will be wider entertainment on Saturday afternoon, including two motocross demonstrations and a Gorilla on a quadbike show which is said to be ‘a real kid’s favourite’.
As well as this, Weymouth Esplanade will be full of wide ranging food, charity and bric-a-brac stalls.
Weymouth Concert Brass band will play on the esplanade and an array of vintage vehicles will be on the pavilion forecourt on Saturday, showcasing historic transport methods from previous years.
There will also be a display of new Suzuki cars on the Esplanade courtesy of the Lanehouse Group.
In terms of children’s entertainment, there will be a funfair and rides on Weymouth Esplanade all weekend.
