A PERSON suffering a fractured ankle was airlifted to Dorset County Hospital.

The Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance helicopter landed at Osprey Quay close to Victoria Square on Portland on Saturday afternoon.

It is understood the person suffered the injury whilst taking part in a water sport activity off Chesil Beach.

The air ambulance was called because of difficulty reaching the casualty and was supported by a land ambulance.

Eyewitness Andy White, who saw the helicopter landing, said: “I was coming back from the Jailhouse Cafe and there appeared to be an incident on Chesil Beach, near Victoria Square.

“I was some distance away to know exactly what was going on.”
