A MAN has been made subject to a mental health treatment requirement after chasing his friend with a samurai sword.
Dorchester Crown Court, in the county hall building, was told Nathan Vernon, 27, and friend Glen Avison were drinking in the early hours of April 1 at the defendant’s flat in Portland, when a row broke out.
Vernon, who admitted an offence of possessing an offensive weapon in a public place, claimed Mr Avison had punched him but then admitted following him with a samurai sword.
Prosecutor Robert Griffiths said Vernn was arrested shortly after Mr Avison called the police and it emerged that the defendant had a collection of swords in his property.
Patricia Sheehan, representing Vernon, said her client had mental health issues and was receiving help.
Judge Roger Jarvis sentenced Vernon to a 12-month community order with a supervision requirement and mental health treatment requirement.
