COASTGUARD ROUND-UP: Sailors rescued from broken down yacht near Portland
COASTGUARDS were tasked after a yacht with two people on board got into difficulty near Portland.
Crew on the yacht ‘Brimwulf’ called for help when it lost steering and suffered engine failure at around 6.30pm yesterday.
The Weymouth RNLI Lifeboat, which was already on the water, towed the vessel back to Portland Marina.
Earlier yesterday, lifeboat crews launched to help two people on a catamaran, which was experiencing problems with a broken mast near the entrance of Portland Harbour.
The incident, which happened at around 5.15pm, was reported to coastguards by vessel ‘Zephyr’ and two other nearby boats proceeded.
Lifeboat crews arrived to find a safety boat from Weymouth and Portland Sailing Academy had also attended and was towing the vessel to Portland.
Elsewhere, coastguards were called to a report of a small craft in difficulty off Ringstead.
Whilst the caller was on the phone at around 4.45pm yesterday afternoon, the craft made it safe to shore.
