A man has been killed in a suspected hit-and-run after riding a child's micro scooter along a major Dorset road.
The man is believed to have been struck by a vehicle, which did not stop, on the A35, Upton Bypass, in the early hours of Saturday morning.
His body was discovered in undergrowth on the sliproad from the A350 to Longmeadow Lane on Sunday.
The incident closed the A35 Lytchett Minster eastbound between the A350 junction and Holes Bay Roundabout for more than five hours while police investigated.
Dorset Police Roads Inspector Matt Butler said: “At approximately 2.15pm on Sunday, September 15, police were alerted to a child’s micro scooter on the nearside verge of the A35, Upton Bypass between the A350 flyover and Holes Bay Road.
“A search was carried out and the body of a 23-year-old Bournemouth man was located in undergrowth nearby.
"It is believed that the man was riding the micro scooter along Upton Bypass early on Saturday morning and was struck by a vehicle.
"The driver of the vehicle has not yet made contact with the police to report the incident.”
The policeman added: “Anyone who thinks they may have been involved in the collision is asked to contact police as soon as possible.”
A spokesperson from the South Western Ambulance Service said: “An ambulance attended the incident.
“However, it was not needed to take anyone to hospital.”
Motorists faced traffic mayhem throughout the day, with traffic at a standstill in Wareham, Upton and Limberlost after the Upton Bypass was closed at 2.17pm by police.
The road reopened at 7.45pm this evening. Police are urging any witnesses, or anyone who saw a man riding a micro scooter along the A350 or on the A35 Upton Bypass to call 101 quoting incident number 372 of Sunday, September 15.
