12:00pm Thursday 19th September 2013 in News
POLICE in Dorset are stepping up patrols as they warning students about the dangers of alcohol.
Officers are joining in the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) In Focus campaign as students start university.
The aim is to cut alcohol related crime and antisocial behaviour.
But it also aimed at highlighting the realities of dealing with drunkenness and alcohol-related incidents and the impact on the police service.
Sergeant Richard Niemier, who works in the Operation Protect team at Dorset Police, said: “Alcohol is a major contributory factor in all types of crime, especially violent crime.”
The In Focus campaign runs from September 18 to 22.
The campaign coincides with freshers’ week – when new students arrive at their chosen universities.
