Dorset Echo story prompts sex case allegations
12:00pm Tuesday 24th September 2013 in News
AN alleged victim told a court that he came forward to report historic sex offences after seeing the story of a similar case in the Dorset Echo.
The man was giving evidence in the case of Martin Hodder, who is on trial at Dorchester Crown Court facing three counts of a serious sexual offence alleged to have happened between 1975 and 1980.
Two of the counts are alleged to have taken place in Bridport, near to the Melplash showground.
The alleged victim said he had seen the sentencing of a man for similar offences in the Dorset Echo in 2011 and tore the page from the paper before contacting police.
He said he did not tell anyone at the time the alleged offences occurred because Hodder told him ‘nobody would believe me’.
Hodder, aged 53, of Bell Road, Andover, Hampshire, denies all three counts.
The trial continues.
