Festive Victorian shownight to make a comeback
WEYMOUTH'S Business Improvement District (BID) group is turning back the clock by bring back a popular Christmas event.
The Victorian Shownight will be held on Friday December 6, replacing the Weymouth Sparkle.
It will also incorporate the switching on of Weymouth's festive lights.
BID manager Nigel Reed said: “We want to revamp the Victorian Shownight.
“We're going to have it on the Friday night instead of the Thursday because we won't want to clash with the Dorchester Christmas Cracker on December 5.
“The retailers seem to want it back because it started off as a retail event and it seemed to work.
“It's nostalgic and very popular.”
Mr Reed said the Victorian Shownight would grow into a three day 'Christmas festival' within one or two years.
The BID is also developing a Halloween shopping event for October 31.
Mr Reed said he was pleased the BID, which was elected in May, can make a difference in the town.
He added: “The BID levy payers have received their first invoice and we've had quite a few phone calls about it.
“Some of them have wanted us to do something like this.
“Halloween, followed by Christmas are two visible things the BID is going to be involved in to bring more people to the town centre.”
