NIMBLE knitters have made hundreds of poppies for the Royal British Legion in Weymouth and Portland.
The Lets Make it Community Group are have picked up their knitting needles to make the flowers for the annual appeal. Some 373 poppies were collected from Age UK’s Portland knitting group – including one stalwart of 85 who knitted 100.
One woman in Weymouth has already made over 500 poppies.
The poppies will be on sale during November from various stores in and around Weymouth and Portland for a suggested donation of £1. All money will go to the Royal British Legion.
Anyone who would like to get involved in the project is asked to contact community development worker Julie Hursthouse on 01305 838497. There will be a special poppy making workshop held at the Park Community Centre on Saturday October 5 from 10am to 2pm. Patterns and wool will be available.
