New support group for widows in Dorset
12:00pm Wednesday 25th September 2013 in News
WIDOWS are being encouraged to join a new support group in Dorset set up by the Jolly Dollies social network.
Founder Yvonne Vann set up the initiative after the loss of her husband six years ago when she felt lost, lonely and discovered she no longer knew how to socialise.
She said that there are members in Dorset who are keen to form Jolly Dollies groups in the county so they can help widows to have a supportive social life with other widows who really understand.
Yvonne said: “The Jolly Dollies is an organisation founded by widows for widows who are looking to regain a social life through friendship and organised social events. Often after the loss of our partner in life, it is very difficult to know where to start when we are trying to return to social situations.”
Jolly Dollies members can learn new skill sets, chat to members locally and nationally on its website forum but also arrange and organise various social events.
They include lunches, dinners, coffee outings, theatre visits, quiz nights and walks as well as such coursers as car maintenance courses and DIY.
