Opening date released for new Sainsbury's store in Weymouth
4:31pm Wednesday 25th September 2013 in News
SAINSBURY’S will officially open its doors to the public on October 16.
The new Weymouth store will be open from 9am and newly appointed manager Steve Jones says it is an 'enormous privilege' for him to manage the 7,170 sq m store off Mercery Road.
Mr Jones said: “We want to make the store a great place for the colleagues, for them to enjoy what they do.
“We want to be known in the area for the work we do which can make a huge difference in the community.”
He added that the addition of Sainsbury’s as the town’s third supermarket will be a positive thing for Weymouth.
It is believed the new store will bring 400 new jobs to the area following a recruitment drive in June.
Not only is the Weymouth Gateway site hosting the first Sainsbury's supermarket in South and West Dorset, it comes with what is billed as Sainsbury's most eco-friendly and energy efficient petrol station in the country.
The store's green credentials will include a CCHP boiler, the first of its type to be used by Sainsbury's in the UK.
The six pump petrol station will have a clear canopy made from solar PV Glass, which will generate more than 1,000 MWh per week, enough to provide 25 to 50 per cent of its power, even in dull days.
Other features include rain water harvesting to provide water for car washing and toilet flushing and sun tubes to reduce lighting needs in the shop.
