SIENNA in Dorchester has once again received a star in the coveted Michelin Food guide 2014.

The award not only makes Sienna the only restaurant in Dorset with a star but also the smallest Michelin Star restaurant in the country.

Dorset Echo:

For the fifth year running the small restaurant on High West Street, owned by chef Russell Brown and his wife and restaurant manager Elena, has been listed in what is dubbed the Oscars of the food industry.

The star system used in the French originating Michelin guide is still the standard against which UK restaurants are judged.

Chef Russell Brown, who is also an Echo food columnist, said he was delighted to have been awarded a star for the fifth year since 2010.

He said: “It is terrific news to find out we've been awarded a star again.

“I had a sleepless night worrying about it so when I heard the news I was very happy.

“The thing about Michelin is that you don't know the inspectors are coming so it really is about offering consistency great food.

“Being in the guide brings in a huge amount of trade and we saw a dramatic uplift in customers the first year.”

He added: “Not only are we the only Dorset restaurant awarded with a star but we're also the smallest Michelin star restaurant in the country.”

The small restaurant, which has a maximum capacity of 15 has just celebrated its 10 year anniversary.

On the online version of the guide it states that Sienna is: “Unassuming, intimate high street restaurant with just five tables.

“he six course tasting menu features accomplished, carefully crafted dishes.

“Excellent quality local produce is showcased in superbly flavoured, tried and tested combinations.

“Service is at once professional and friendly.”

Also this week the restaurant celebrated being awarded three AA Rosettes and is also in the Good Food Guide.

Editor of the guide Rebecca Burr said: “We have never produced a GB & Ireland guide that provides our readers with such diversity and variety.

“The Michelin guide has always reflected what's out there and London in particular has never offered so much choice - there really is something for everyone and for every occasion and there appears to be no end to the number of exciting new restaurant openings.

With cuisines and culinary influences from all parts of the globe, it's no surprise that the capital is one of the most exciting cities in the world for food.

“We've seen internationally acclaimed chefs open restaurants over here but we're also delighted to witness the rise of the next generation of talented British chefs and the continued evolution of British cooking.”

Booking the Sienna is essential and meal prices range from £25.50-£65.
