Car torched in Dorchester arson
3:17pm Wednesday 2nd October 2013 in News
POLICE in Dorchester are appealing for witnesses after an arson attack on a vehicle on the edge of the town.
A Volvo car at a farm in Bridport Road was torched in the early hours of Sunday.
The incident was believed to have been a targeted attack and the fire, which started in the rear of the vehicle, caused extensive damage to the car.
No arrests have yet been made.
Detective Constable Gerald Marchant, of Dorset Police Western CID, said: “I believe this was a deliberate, targeted attack at these premises although the motive for why anyone would commit such a dangerous act is unclear.
“The actions of whoever is responsible have caused the vehicle owner great financial loss and they have been left fearing for their safety.
“The offenders have not only shown a great disregard for another person’s property, but also put their own lives and those living nearby at risk.
“The farm is situated near a busy main road, and I am appealing to anyone who may have seen this crime take place, saw any suspicious activity prior to it happening, or has information about those responsible to contact police in confidence.”
Witnesses to the incident, which occurred between 2am and 3am on Sunday, September 29, are asked to contact Dorset Police on 101.
