VIDEO: Dorset man entertains millions on hit show X Factor
A DORSET man entertained millions with his unforgettable X Factor audition.
Dan Quay, also known as the ‘Online Street Dancer’, shot to fame when his rendition of hit song ‘Eye of the Tiger’ was screened.
Although the 34-year-old failed to secure a place in the next round of the popular singing contest he is determined to carry on performing.
Brave Dan decided to perfect his singing and street dancing talents after he was brutally beaten up in 2007 and left with a serious head injury.
He said: “I got beaten up to a pulp and for three years I suffered a lot.
“ I was determined to get back on my feet again and start singing and dancing.
“I loved every minute of the X Factor and I was happy with the result.
“I queued for eight hours but it was worth it.”
Since his audition was screened on the Xtra Factor, the budding singer has even been spotted in Tesco, Blandford Forum, where he works.
The nation watched with bated breath as Mr Quay walked into the room for his audition in front of judges Gary Barlow, Nicole Scherzinger, Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh.
He said: “I did forget the words but that’s only because I’m used to karaoke and the words being on the screen.
“I really enjoyed that Gary joined in singing with me and Sharon really boosted my confidence.
“The best feedback I got from the judges was from Louis who said I was a better dancer than a singer. This is such a compliment to me because I just love street dance. ”
Following the life changing attack, Mr Quay applied for street dance lessons and training on how to teach it from Urban Strides, a street dance specialist business in High Wycombe.
He now posts street dance tutorials on his website as well as singing across Dorset in karaoke bars.
He said: “My friends and family told me to go for the X Factor and I don’t regret it.
“I’ve been trying to build my confidence for the past few years and I’m planning to audition for The Voice next.
“I can’t believe how much positive feedback I’ve had.”
The enthusiastic performer even found the time to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to judge Nicole Scherzinger, who told Mr Quay she would never forget him.
With numerous You Tube videos and his own website, Mr Quay has become an internet sensation gaining thousands of hits online.
He said people become more interested in his talents when he auditioned for Britain’s Got Talent in 2011 and also following his appearance on Sky One’s ‘Got to Dance’.
