Big Draw exhibition returns to Mulberry Gallery
IT’S time to sharpen those pencils and dust off those paintboxes – Weymouth’s Big Draw exhibition and events return to the Mulberry Gallery at the town’s library from October 7 to 19.
The exhibition will show a new range of figurative artwork from members of Weymouth Life Drawing Group and there will also be the usual chance to have a go with the popular figurative drawing fun day on October 19, held within the gallery space.
The Big Draw is the world’s biggest celebration of drawing.
It has grown into a month-long festival, which runs in venues across the country throughout October. Every year more people across the country join in with events and engage in creative activities held in schools, museums and galleries.
Susan Hughes, visual artist and organiser of both Weymouth’s Big Draw and Weymouth Life Drawing Group, said: “This is always a great opportunity for all members to exhibit their work, have it seen, and hopefully encourage everyone else to have a go.
“Drawing is for everyone and brings many beneficial qualities, for not only the gifted, but for anyone prepared to take the time to switch off from the hustle and bustle of life and learn a little about themselves.”
This is the third year that Weymouth Life Drawing Group has embraced this national event, and each year their participation grows.
Once again, professional and amateur artists have joined together to exhibit their artwork as part of a celebration of the benefits of drawing.
The figurative drawing fun day on October 19 runs from 11am till 1pm on Saturday, October 19, in the gallery space at Weymouth Library in Great George Street.
For £1, to cover the cost of materials, this aims to be a fun day of dressing up and drawing.
Come along and explore some drawing techniques with a range of materials, work with an experienced tutor to guide you, or have a go at being an artist’s muse.
