UPDATE: Moped rider injured in serious accident in Weymouth
1:50am Monday 7th October 2013 in News
A moped rider was injured in a collision outside Asda in Weymouth.
Newstead Road was closed while emergency services dealt with the incident but was later reopened.
An eyewitness said a car had been turning right into the Asda car park when it collided with a motorcyclist who was travelling along Newstead Road away from Boot Hill junction.
She said: “The driver of the car was a young woman, and I saw the car clip the back of the bike.
“The motorcyclist landed quite a long way away.
“It was just surreal, I couldn't believe what I was seeing.”
She ran to the injured man and made sure he kept his helmet on while other onlookers called emergency services.
She added: “I'm trained in first aid, so I know to do things like keep the helmet on and keep him still.
“He was conscious, and speaking, but he had obviously had a bit of a shock.”
A spokeswoman for Dorset Police said: "We received a call at 3.26pm this afternoon reporting a collision between a red Vauxhall Corsa and a Lexmoto motorcycle.
"Ambulance attended and the road was clear at just after 4pm."
Dorset Fire and Rescue Service also attended the scene and cleared a small fuel spillage in the road.
