Weymouth Manor Townswomen’s guild knitting enthusiasts support troops

A GROUP of knitters have been showing their support for soldiers serving on the frontline.
Members of the Weymouth Manor Townswomen’s guild have been busy knitting hats for servicemen and woman who are serving in Afghanistan and around the world.
Their winter woollies are being passed on to the Dorset branch of the Support Our Soldiers (SOS) charity, which collects items to send out to troops on a monthly basis.
Coordinator for the Dorset branch of SOS Amanda Saunders said: “I was delighted with the enthusiasm of the ladies.
“They really want to help with the operation, they assisted the branch last year and again keenly volunteered their services again this year.
“Without their help we would not be able to send the numbers of hats, gloves and mittens which we need, especially towards our Christmas Appeal when we will be sending 1,000 shoeboxes.”
The charity is keen to hear from anyone who can donate wool items that can be included in the shoeboxes.
Anyone who can assist with knitting can contact Amanda on 01305 269737 or you can email questions to her at firstname.lastname@example.org Drop of points for items include the Spyglass Inn at Bowleaze in Weymouth or Amanda’s house at 68 Herringston Road, Dorchester with information on suitable donations available at supportoursoldiers.co.uk
A collection point has also been set up in Bridport by Elaine and Catherine Brown at 35 Gundry Road. Call 01308 422713 to arrange a drop off.
