My word! Lots lined up for book festival

THE Bridport Open Book festival 2013 opens on October 16 for five days at the arts centre.
The complex will be alive with music, film and writing workshops as well as appearances from writers.
This year the Open Book draws closely on the arts centre’s ties with the Bridport Prize, celebrating the international writing competition’s 40th birthday.
Judges Wendy Cope, Michele Roberts and David Swann will be presenting this year’s winners with prizes for poetry, short stories and flash fiction in the award ceremony on Saturday, October 19.
Ms Cope will also host an evening of poetry on Friday October 18 at 8pm.
Flash fiction judge and poet David Swann will lead a poetry-writing workshop on Friday, October 18 from 3pm to 5.30pm.
Other highlights include stand up poet Elvis McGonagall hosting Public Address 2 – The National Spoken Word Show on Saturday, October 19 at 7.30pm.
There will be two cinema screenings on Thursday, October 17. The arts centre will screen the 1960s version of Far From The Madding Crowd at 1pm.
In the evening there will be a special preview of The Selfish Giant, inspired by Oscar Wilde’s story of the same name, the film is a contemporary fable about two teenage boys who get caught up in the world of copper theft.
