Police investigating fatal crash near St Paul's roundabout in Bournemouth
A MAN has died after his car crashed into a wall near Asda in Bournemouth.
Police were called at around 6am to the roundabout at Holdenhurst Rd, close to the supermarket, where a 4 x 4 has crashed into a wall.
The driver was taken to Royal Bournemouth Hospital but died shortly after.
All roads have now been reopened.
Insp Matt Butler, of Dorset Police's Traffic Unit, has told the Daily Echo: "Just before six o'clock this morning we received a call to say that a vehicle had collided with a wall at the roundabout here.
"We attended the scene, along with paramedics, and the male driver was taken from the scene to hospital by ambulance. Sadly, he died at the hospital.
"We are now at the scene investigating the causes of the collision, working out exactly how it happened and why it happened."
The closure of the roundabout caused severe delays across the area.
Insp Matt Baxter, of Bournemouth Police, said police are investigating the cause of the accident.
"We don't believe there to be any other vehicles involved", he told The Daily Echo this morning.
"As far as we can establish there was only one person in the car, but we have an investigation to find out whether there were any other people involved.
"Now daylight has appeared we can start that investigation."
