Mid-Dorset MP makes breast cancer drugs plea
3:00pm Thursday 10th October 2013 in News
MID-Dorset MP Annette Brooke attended a reception at the House of Commons about access to breast cancer drugs.
As co-chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Breast Cancer, she hosted the event with Breakthrough Breast Cancer which is calling on MPs to use their influence to make the issue of access to breast cancer drugs a priority.
She said: “The Government should use its influence to bring about a truly equitable system of drug pricing that means effective drugs can routinely reach patients.”
More than 70 MPs heard about the key areas of Breakthrough’s work.
Earlier this year the organisation expressed its disappointment that two effective secondary breast cancer drugs were rejected by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence on the basis of cost.
Last month the Government announced a two-year extension of the Cancer Drugs Fund, through which patients can access drugs rejected – or not yet approved – by NICE for routine use on the NHS.
