Durnovaria Silver Band performs in centre of Dorchester
CROWDS flocked to enjoy a performance by the Durnovaria Silver Band in Dorchester town centre.
The county town brass and silver ensemble set up in South Street to entertain shoppers and at the same time collect funds for their mission to secure a new home.
The band is currently attempting to raise funds to buy the former Fordington Methodist Church to convert it into a community facility as well as offering the group a permanent home.
President Les Phillips said the generosity of those who gathered to watch the South Street performance was likely to result in a significant boost to its funds.
He said: “It went very well, I don’t know how much we collected but the bucket was very heavy after the two hours of playing.
“For the whole two hours we had people stopping and enjoying the music.
“The town really came together and the generosity of the crowd was brilliant. Every penny goes towards our new home.”
