Coastguards called after elderly man sustains head injuries
COASTGUARDS were called after an elderly man was hit by the boom of a boat whilst sailing in Weymouth Bay.
A spokesperson for Portland Coastguard said: “We received a call at 11.47am today that a 73-year-old man had sustained head injuries after being hit by the boom of a small boat.
“The injuries are understood to be nothing serious and took place whilst the man was sailing in Weymouth Bay.
“The Weymouth inshore lifeboat was called which recovered the boat and helped the man back to Weymouth harbourside, where he was met by an ambulance and Wyke Coastguards."
The elderly man was checked over by ambulance staff at approximately 12.18pm before making his way back to Weymouth Sailing Club.
