Weymouth-based First bus driver Gus Iandi has been nominated for a bus industry “Oscar”.
He is in line for the Chris Moyes Memorial Award for the Top National Bus Driver in the 2013 UK Bus Awards.
Gus (58), who has worked for First for 13 years, has proved so popular with his customers in the Weymouth area, a Facebook page which attracted 1000 followers was started in his honour.
In the past year, six happy passengers have written letters of commendation expressing their gratitude for his excellent customer service skills.
One said: “I have never met a friendlier, more polite gentleman in my whole time using First’s public transport services” while another added: “Gus is always cheerful and polite. A really nice person who lifts everyone’s spirits and it is a joy to ride on his bus.”
Phil Schebesta, First’s Weymouth staff manager, said: “Gus is always extremely cheerful and his attitude is infectious. The amount of positive feedback we receive about him is wonderful.
“He is a shining example of the difference that a polite and friendly manner can make to our customers and is in my opinion, an excellent candidate for the ‘Oscar’ for the Top National Bus Driver.”
Gus will find out next month if he has won the national bus driver “Oscar” at the UK Bus Awards’ presentation ceremony taking place at the London Hilton Hotel on Tuesday 19 November.
