Weymouth Sea Life Park to host two week shark event
SHARKS will be making a splash at Weymouth Sea Life Park for two weeks as part of a unique themed event.
In a bid to support shark’s conservation, Weymouth Sea Life will be presenting a range of exciting and interactive experiences to raise awareness about the wide range of shark species and the challenges they face.
Amy Harvey, operations supervisor at Weymouth Sea Life, said: “The two-week shark event is for a good cause, and I would encourage everyone to come along.
“We have social media competitions running where visitors can win a shark feeding experience in our nursery shark reef.
“All they have to do is find our shark expert at the park and tell them a cool shark fact.
“Visitors could also win a chance to take part in a ‘benthic feed’, feeding our bottom dwellers of the sea such as shovel nose sharks and sting rays.
“People might be shocked when they visit and hear our fact file of things that cause more fatalities than sharks, such as vending machines and even bees.
“The message of the event is to support the shark species, help stop the practice of shark finning and to spread the message that sharks are not as dangerous as people think they are.”
Activities at the park – which is home to ten different shark species – include shark feeding times, a quiz trail, shark tests, colouring sheets, shark talks and a variety of facts on sharks.
Those interested can also sign a petition to help stop the practice of global shark finning.
Weymouth Sea Life are also supporting the Shark Trust and Shark Alliance throughout the event.
